Children’s Photography – FAQ’s

What to expect

Below are questions that we are often asked. Every children’s shoot is different so if you have any further questions, please do contact us. Click on the questions below to reveal the answers.

Your photo shoot

What does the shoot fee include, and how long will the shoot last?

For a studio style photo shoot the session will usually last approximately an hour and a half.
For a lifestyle photo shoot it is approximately three hours.
Included in the shoot: travelling costs; our photographic expertise; the shoot time and the post production of the images in preparation for viewing.

When is the best time for a children's photo shoot?

From our experience children are usually at their best in the morning – they tend to be at their happiest and have their best smiles. If your child’s routine means they would suit afternoons better we are happy to be guided by you and arrange the session time accordingly.

What happens if my child is ill?

You’ll spend the day at home cuddling them! As children do get poorly and we are always happy to reschedule your session. All we ask that you let us know as soon as you can.

What clothes should my children wear?

Children need to be comfortable so it is important they like the clothes you are asking them to wear. Changing outfits allows for different photographic opportunities and gives the children a chance to have a drink or snack and not spill it down their clothes!
Please try to ensure that the children’s clothes compliment one another in colours and where possible avoid graphic patterns, checked shirts and logos.
Let your child choose one of their outfits. The outfit can be anything whether it is a princess dress, Spiderman costume or dance outfit. Children love to dress up and see photographs of themselves.

Are you able to remove imperfections from the images?

We would not adjust an image unless asked.
To remove spots, bruises and scratches that are part of an active child’s life is never a problem.

What props do you use?

Does your child have a favourite snugly or toy? Children are at their most relaxed with their own toys and cuddly animals so we like to use those rather than bring our own.

What happens if I book a lifestyle shoot and the weather is bad?

We always say don’t worry about the weather. We can either do your shoot indoors, go outside and let the children stomp in puddles or reschedule the shoot for another time.

Do you mind if our family pet joins our child in the photographs?

Pets are an important part of family life so including them in a photo shoot is absolutely fine.

Are parents included in the session fee?

Our studio style fee is £50 whether you have a children only shoot or with parents (and grandparents if you would like.) If you are wanting two families photographed our extended families price is £85.
Our lifestyle fee is £85 for children only. If you would like a family lifestyle shoot the price is £125.

After the shoot

When can we see the pictures?

We want you to enjoy looking at your photos as much as the photo shoot itself.
After the photo shoot we will contact you to arrange a viewing session. We recommend that you arrange a viewing time when all the decision makers can be present. You will be able to view the photos and look at our products choices: frames, canvases, glacial blocks and other presentation products. If you place your order and pay for it at the viewing session we offer a fantastic 20% discount on all of our product prices.

How many images will we be able to choose from?

We expect to present you with between fifty and seventy five images from your session. This will be a mixture of the shots taken.

Do you have a minimum spend?

We don’t have a minimum spend however most clients spend £300 upwards.

Can I buy the photographs on a disc?

Yes. You are welcome to buy the complete set of print-ready digital images on a disc which can be taken to any lab for reproduction.
The disc price is £395. You will receive a licence to reproduce the images for personal use, or to give to family and friends. We retain the copyright to all of the images and you are not permitted to enter the pictures into competitions or to sell on to third parties.
